Jimmy Choux has convinced trackwork watchers he is ready to succeed on a stage where a lot of other modern-day New Zealand Derby winners have usually failed.

The glamour colt of New Zealand racing has Saturday's Rosehill Guineas in his sights after he was judged one of the best trackworkers at Warwick Farm on Tuesday.

Sent out early on the course proper on a surface rated in the heavy range, Jimmy Choux relished his work in preparation for his Guineas bid.

He galloped over 1200m with race jockey Jonathan Riddell in the saddle and trainer John Bary clocked his star at 1:20 with the last 600m run in 38 seconds.

His last 200m was described as close to the fastest of the morning.

The gallop put Bary's mind at ease after the horse was given an easy week after his arrival in Australia.

"He has been so relaxed I was a little bit worried actually," Bary said.

"(But) as soon as we put him with another horse (on Tuesday morning) he knew it was business time and he loved it, really, really doing it well.

"I think we've got a better racehorse here than when he won the New Zealand Derby."

Jimmy Choux will be trying to improve a modest record of New Zealand Derby winners in the Rosehill Guineas - the second leg of the Sydney autumn triple crown.

Isle Of Man and the subsequent weight-for-age star Surfers Paradise completed the double.

Yet it's been slim pickings for the seven horses who have tried it since Surfers Paradise triumphed in 1991.

Jimmy Choux shares the second line of AJC Australian Derby betting at $7 with Retrieve, one of two Guineas runners for trainer Peter Snowden's Darley-backed stable.

Derby favourite Absolutelyawesome, meanwhile, was among the early workers at Randwick with Melbourne-based jockey Glen Boss in town to put the finishing touches on the horse's Guineas preparation.

Boss rated Absolutelyawesome an unlucky runner in the Randwick Guineas when the three-year-old finished fourth - justa length from the winner Ilovethiscity.

Trainer Mike Moroney's concerns about Absolutelyawesome missing a Guineas start eased after the nomination deadline.

The Australian Turf Club received 20 entries with Absolutelyawesome safely in the field as the 14th in ballot order.

A field of 18 and two emergencies can be declared for the 2000m feature.

Absolutelyawesome heads Derby markets at $5 and Moroney expects the gelding to confirm his lofty rating for the blue riband event with a forward display on Saturday.

Cranbourne trainer Mick Kent is now leaning towards a Guineas start for impressive Alister Clark Stakes winner Domesky.
