Premier trainer Gai Waterhouse experienced the highs and lows of racing at Rosehill with a career-ending injury to Amelia's Dream taking the gloss off the victory by rising star Swift Alliance.

Waterhouse wrapped up her seventh trainers' premiership with a double at Warwick Farm on Friday following a see-sawing duel with Darley's Peter Snowden and she was back in the winner's circle at the first meeting of the new term on Saturday.

However, the day wasn't all roses for Waterhouse with former boom juvenile Amelia's Dream suffering an injury to her near foreleg during an exhibition gallop.

It was the same leg in which she fractured a sesamoid during her brilliant Silver Slipper victory last year and happened at the same venue.

"She's been retired, it looks like the same injury as before," Waterhouse said.

Her day didn't get any better when dual Group winner and favourite Dreamscape could manage only seventh in the feature Missile Stakes (1100m) won by the Tim Martin-trained Teasing, but Swift Alliance saved the day.

Raced by Gooree Stud, which also owns Dreamscape, Swift Alliance lowered the colours of the previously unbeaten O'Lonhro in the Rosehill Gardens Event Centre Hcp (1200m), prevailing over the son of former champion Lonhro by a long neck.

It was the fourth victory from five starts for Swift Alliance who has earned a shot at better company.

"He will now go on to stakes races. We wanted to take it one step at a time and go through his classes," Waterhouse said.

"Once he got into his rhythm today he really got into stride.

"He is such an uncomplicated horse."

Waterhouse said Swift Alliance would be kept to sprints despite being a son of 2002 AJC Australian Derby winner Don Eduardo and confirmed he could be part of her team for the Melbourne spring carnival.
