Trainer Rodney Douglas is holding on to a faint hope that three-year-old Huxssen can produce what he believes would be one of the great upsets against Takeover Target in Saturday's Group One The Goodwood at Morphettville.

Douglas said the task ahead was akin to that of Dandy Andy who was at $126 when he beat the "unbeatable" Vo Rogue in the 1988 Australian Cup.

"Takeover Target should be too good for him (Huxssen) but you never know what might happen," Douglas said.

"They didn't give Dandy Andy any chance but he won the Australian Cup."

Takeover Target has frightened off much of The Goodwood opposition with only 12 of the 41 horses nominated for the $300,000 1200m feature remaining after final acceptances on Wednesday.

As a result Takeover Target has tightened further in the TAB Sportsbet market to $1.60 ahead of I Am Invincible at $11 while Huxssen is at $13 along with Tramuntana and Blahnik.

Marstic (2000) and Keeper (2001) are the only favourites to win The Goodwood in the last 20 years while the last two winners, Shadoways and Let Go Thommo, both started at $31.

Douglas said I Am Invincible could be the key that unlocks Huxssen's opportunity to grab an unlikely win over Takeover Target in a race he predicts will have plenty of pressure on from the start.

"I Am Invincible will loosen him (Takeover Target) up," Douglas said.

"It won't be a race for the faint-hearted.

"The race should be run for something to be getting home and that will suit Huxssen as he will settle back."

The winner of 20 of his 38 starts, Takeover Target is six years older than Huxssen who has won four of his eight starts.

"The old champion (Takeover Target) is going really well and if he wasn't in the race you would be rapt," Douglas said.

With 58.5kg Takeover Target will carry the same weight as last start when he kicked off his campaign with a runaway win over Northern Meteor and reigning Australian Sprinter of the Year Apache Cat in the Group One TJ Smith (1200m) at Randwick on April 18.

Huxssen's last win was his most impressive, weaving a passage from the back of the field to beat Returntosender by nearly two lengths over 1440 metres at Caulfield on April 4.

Douglas said Huxssen had trained on well and would have no excuses on Saturday.

"He has freshened up well and is jumping out of his skin," Douglas said.
