In-form sprinter Kroner heads 23 entries for next week's Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford.

Formerly known as the Pacesetter, the race was renamed in honour of champion Takeover Target who races in the Golden Jubilee Stakes on Saturday at Royal Ascot.

A seasoned international traveller and multiple Group One winner, Takeover Target claimed his first stakes race when he won the 2004 Pacesetter at his fifth start.

He remained unbeaten in his first seven starts which culminated in Group One success in the Salinger Stakes at Flemington.

Although there are no Takeover Targets in Wednesday's race, Kroner has found a new lease of life since trainer Bart Cummings decided to prepare him solely as a sprinter.

He has won four of his past five and at 101 he is the second highest-rated horse in the entries behind distinctive grey Hadaaf (102).

The Joe Pride-trained Hadaaf carried 59.5kg to win the Takeover Target Prelude (1000m) on June 9 by a nose from Grand Rhumba.

Mister Celestial, runner-up to Captain Bax last year, and third-placed Newton's Rings are also among this year's nominations.
