The Hobart Cup is the likely mission for Rathsallagh who has returned to form this summer after a long run of outs.

She claimed her second consecutive victory this month when she gave her rivals the slip to win Saturday's Brian Green Handicap at Sandown.

The O'Reilly five-year-old, formerly with the Russell Cameron stable, was runner-up to Riva San in the 2008 Queensland Oaks (2400m) before struggling in two subsequent preparations.

Now with Robert Smerdon for her current campaign, Rathsallagh won her first race for more than 18 months when she led all the way for a 5-1/2 length win at $21 over 2100 metres in a restricted mares event on the Lakeside circuit.

On the same track on Saturday and with Glen Boss again in the saddle, Rathsallagh ($2.40 fav) again dictated terms in front in the 0-89 race over 2400 metres to score eased down by 2-3/4 lengths from Wildly Excited with imported mare Belle Famille two lengths away third.

"She went terrible second-up at Flemington so we swapped a few things around with her and decided to go forward and she was very good here last time," stable foreman Stuart Webb said.

Webb said the $400,000 Group Three Hobart Cup (2200m) on February 8 was the probable target for Rathsallagh who impressed Boss.

"She's beating moderate opposition but she's actually streeting them," Boss said.

"I was very surprised how far in front she was because it didn't feel like she was going that quick.

"She's still improving in her track gallops and getting there fitness-wise and she loves a distance.

"She's Group One placed against very moderate opposition. You can't too carried away just yet but mares like her once they strike form they tend to hold it so she's one to follow."
