Trainer Andrew Noblet can almost taste his first Group One win after Sistine Angel overcame an outside barrier to land the Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington.

Following Sunday's barnstorming Group Two victory Noblet will now target the talented filly with a good degree of confidence at the Group One Thousand Guineas on October 13 over 1600 metres, the same as the Manifold.

The daughter of Testa Rossa, who cost $60,000, is now shaping as the best horse Noblet has trained ahead of 2004 Group Two Caulfield Sprint winner Lilando.

Craig Williams has ridden Sistine Angel at her three runs this spring and vowed to stick with her in the Guineas.

"She's not very big but has a big heart and is courageous," Williams said.

"Every time you ask her she really extends her action and really finds the line."

Sistine Angel jumped cleanly from the gates for the first time campaign and drifted back in the field before unwinding a stunning home straight finish.

Williams feared he may have mistimed his run when the previously unbeaten Brazilian Pulse burst clear but Sistine Angel reeled her in to score by a head.

Danny O'Brien-trained VRC Sires Produce Stakes winner Shamrocker returned to form to finish 1-1/4 lengths away third.

"I have a lot of time for the second horse and when she kicked clear of me I thought I have got my judgment wrong here but she (Sistine Angel) lifted," Williams said.

"I loved the way she picked up."

Sistine Angel was having only her sixth race start on Sunday and has won twice and been placed three times.

Her other win was in the Group Three McNeil Stakes against the colts when she resumed at Caulfield on August 28.

She was a luckless long neck second to Divorces in the Group Three Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield two weeks ago.

Noblet said Sistine Angel had a wonderful temperament and was a dream to train.

"She is very athletic and has a great attitude," Noblet said.

Noblet has been encouraged by Williams' decision to stick with the filly through the spring.

"When Craig says he doesn't want to get off her and wants to ride her all the way through you are sort of halfway there," Noblet said.
