Injury-prone galloper Grand Duels is looking to revive his career in the Group One Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield.

The bolter of Saturday's field at $71 with TAB Sportsbet, the six-year-old is a dual Group One placegetter but is a forgotten horse after having knee surgery for bone chips and treatment for two crushed vertebrae.

Trainer Byron Cozamanis said the signs were positive going into the big sprint and he is expecting the gelding to be in the firing line for a long way from barrier two in the crack field.

"It's a very good field but he should be up there in the first three and I think he will be very competitive," Cozamanis said.

Two years ago Grand Duels was third to Weekend Hussler in the Newmarket Handicap and a year ago was third to Scenic Blast in the Lightning Stakes before losing form as a result of his injuries.

"He just kept pulling up sore and no-one could find out what was wrong," Cozamanis said.

The trainer said that a more intensive examination found the bone chips in his near-side knee and his back problem.

"He's had a long break and everything seems fine now," Cozamanis said.

"He's had a couple of jumpouts and went very well in them so we have our fingers crossed."

Grand Duels will carry the minimum 52kg and apprentice Daniel Ganderton will ride him.

The longest-priced Oakleigh Plate winner in the last 30 years was lightweight Gleaming Waters ($67) in 1981 while Sans Rival was $51 when he carried one of the bottom weights to victory two years later.

Another 11 winners have started at double-figure odds, including Swiss Ace ($31) last year.

The Tony Vasil-trained Lucky Secret, who was pipped by Swiss Ace a year ago, is $5 favourite to avenge the defeat on Saturday after he was beaten a head in record time by Here De Angels in the Group Three Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield two weeks ago.

Jockey Nash Rawiller rated the performance as possibly a career-best effort from Lucky Secret after he was caught three wide all the way.

Damien Oliver is Lucky Secret's replacement jockey with Rawiller committed to ride in Sydney.

Here De Angels is $7 to repeat his Rubiton win and is a line below three-year-olds Starspangledbanner and Wanted who are second favourites at $6.50.

David Hayes said Eagle Falls ($9.50) had been set for the Oakleigh Plate all campaign and expects he will be charging home.

"If it was at Flemington I would be more confident but he really doesn't run a bad race anywhere," Hayes said.

"I am sure he will be powerful late, especially in a hard-run race."
