Byron Cozamanis gets the chance to land the first Group One win of his career at his new home track when Grand Duels runs in the Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield.

Cozamanis, who hails from South Australia where he was leading trainer at Port Lincoln before moving to Adelaide, recently moved to Melbourne.

Grand Duels, who cost $40,000, has shown a liking for Flemington where he has was third behind Weekend Hussler in last year's Newmarket Hcp (1200m) and last start finished third to Scenic Blast in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) when resuming from a spell.

But Cozamanis believes the five-year-old can run a big race around the turn on his home track from barrier three with Dwayne Dunn aboard.

Dunn rode Grand Duels in both the Newmarket and Lightning placings.

The gelding has raced twice at Caulfield for a second over 1100m as a three-year-old and a fifth to the ill-fated Sunburnt Land in the Group Two International Sprint (1100m) last Caulfield Cup Day.

"He's run well here both times. He knuckled over at the start and missed it but he run a good race last time he ran here," Cozamanis said.

"I think he's improved on his run in the Lightning."

Cozamanis rated equal topweight Scenic Blast as the horse to beat in what looks an extremely open Oakleigh Plate.

Sheikh Mohammed will be represented by the Lee Freedman-trained three-year-old Wilander who dead-heated for fourth with Weekend Hussler in the Lightning.

A half-brother to Magnus who ran third to Undue in 2007 and was runner-up to Weekend Hussler last year, Wilander has drawn barrier 10 and will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy.

"I feel he's drawn extremely well in the race. He should be able to get a little sit behind the speed," said the sheikh's stable representative Trevor Lobb.

"In the Lightning he was left in front and he had to do all the work and we felt his run to finish equal fourth was outstanding.

"He has improved and this is the race we set him for, so it's full steam ahead."

Three-year-olds have a good record in Oakleigh Plates with 11 winning the past 21 runnings of the 1100m feature including three of the last four in Fastnet Rock (2005), Snitzel (2006) and Weekend Hussler (2008).

There are three three-year-olds engaged this year, the other two being the Leon Corstens-trained Fernandina and Fist Of Fury, prepared by John O'Shea.

Meanwhile Luke Nolen has replaced apprentice Dean Holland on the Robbie Griffiths-trained Happy Glen.

Holland had an appeal against the decision and the severity of a careless riding suspension dismissed on Thursday .

He was also suspended for careless riding at Mornington on Wednesday.
