Grahame Begg has had to wait more than a month for the ideal race for speedy mare Goldam and believes he's found it in the form of the Pink Stiletto Sprint at Randwick.

The five-year-old has had two starts over 1000 metres on the Kensington track for a win and a second.

She steps out in Friday's event after a seven-week break since running sixth to Lighthorseman over 1100 metres on the Randwick course proper.

"We have had to put her away and wait for this race," Begg said.

"We knew she was going to have to carry a good bit of weight but she goes so well at the track and the distance we decided to keep her for this race.

"Her form on the Kensington track is a win and a second over 1000 metres and you can't get much better than that."

Goldam will get a two-kilogram weight relief from Brenton Avdulla's claim bringing her into the race with 57kg.

The Paul Perry-trained El Zegri will carry the same weight after Tommy Berry's claim and comes into the race off a win over the distance on the same track on February 10.

El Zegri also finished second to Goldam over Friday's course and distance on November 28.

The race is named for the theme of the day at Randwick with the Australian Jockey Club holding the meeting as a precursor to the annual gay and lesbian Mardi Gras on Saturday.

The day will feature Fashions on the Field and other events with leading trainer Gai Waterhouse and David Jones major participants in the promotion.

The Canon Selphy Handicap (1800m) features the Waterhouse-trained Once Were Wild who takes another step towards the AJC Australian Oaks.

The filly has won her past three starts and owner John Singleton has earmarked her as his leading Oaks contender with stablemate More Joyous on a likely path to the Doncaster Mile.

All proceeds from various fundraising activities on the day will go to the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation which provides support to people with HIV.
