Group One-winning sprinter Gold Trail will round off his preparation for Singapore's KrisFlyer Sprint with a barrier trial hitout at Warwick Farm on Friday.

The gelding will then travel to Melbourne and leave for Singapore on Wednesday week for the showdown with Rocket Man on May 16.

Trainer Gary Portelli said he was more than happy with Gold Trail who has had excuses at his two starts since his win in the Railway Stakes at Ellerslie on New Year's Day.

"He's going enormous," Portelli said.

"He will trial on Friday at Warwick Farm to keep him topped up.

"After that he will fly to Melbourne and leave from there for Singapore on Wednesday.

"I spoke to Lee Freedman who has travelled horses to Singapore in the past and he advised me to make sure he did all his hard work here.

"So that's what we will do. He's fit and he will just go three-quarter pace when he gets to Singapore.

"If he runs in the first three in Singapore then we will be going to Royal Ascot for the 1000-metre race, the King's Stand."

After his Railway win, Gold Trail ran last in the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham, his only start so far on a left-handed track such as he will encounter at Kranji.

"The only time he has run that way was at Trentham, the track was bad and he never really got a crack at the turn so it's still an unknown," Portelli said.

"I think he can handle it, he's a pretty versatile horse."

Gold Trail was beaten 2-1/4 lengths when sixth in the Galaxy won by Ortensia but had a torrid run.

"He got pushed around and had no luck," Portelli said.

"He's come out of it fine and it's all systems go to Singapore and hopefully England."

Saturday's Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Road To Rock is also headed to Singapore to compete in the Singapore Airlines International Cup (2000m) while the David Hayes-trained Eagle Falls contests the KrisFlyer (1200m).
