It is hoped a gear change will help propel Exceed With Me back into the winners' circle at Rosehill on Saturday.

The three-year-old comes into the Schweppervescence Handicap (1400m) after being an unplaced favourite at Randwick on Boxing Day in a race won by Love Conquers All.

Exceed With Me was originally being aimed at the Magic Millions Trophy at the Gold Coast won last Saturday by Graceful Anna with Love Conquers All third.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained colt's run at Randwick was a big disappointment to the stable.

"Josh Parr (jockey) seemed to think he went a little bit hard within himself and so we've be working in the cross-over nose band and he'll have that gear attached on Saturday," Waterhouse's racing manager Robyn Hartney said.

"His work's been very impressive, we just can't fault him on that front."

The Boxing Day race was his first after a 16 week spell.

One run prior, Exceed With Me was a close third in the Listed Ming Dynasty (1400m) last September in a race in which subsequent Cox Plate winner So You Think ran second.

"That last run blotted his record, he'd never really been out of the money before that," Hartney said.

"After he ran that great third against those very good horses we thought he was going to be a real contender this prep at some major races.

"He needs to stand up on Saturday."

Topweight with 58kg, Exceed With Me jumps from barrier 10 of 11 and will be ridden by Nash Rawiller.

The gelding's only win from five starts was at Canterbury over 1250 metres last August.

One of his biggest challenges at Rosehill is likely to be stablemate Power And Glory.

The Elusive Quality three-year-old is undefeated after just two starts.

He graduated from a win at Hawkesbury last December to a win at Randwick over 1200 metres on New Years Day.

"At Hawkesbury he missed the start and did everything wrong and still won," Hartney said.

Power And Glory was slowly away last start too with apprentice Ben Looker aboard.

"Ben said it's no so much that the horse misses the kick but it's more that he just takes a while to muster some speed," Hartney said.

Looker waited patiently for a run before manoeuvring Power And Glory into clear running in the last 200 metres at Randwick.

Power And Glory showed plenty of grit in holding off the flying Proclaimer by a half head.

"Ben said that horse was going to go past him but as soon as he came at him he laid his ears back which is a good sign," Hartney said.

Power And Glory has barrier seven, carries 55.5kg and will be partnered by Blake Shinn.
