Jockey Scott Galloway has put a string of injuries and setbacks behind him to score his first metropolitan win in nine months aboard Jennabee at Doomben.

The Trevor Bailey-trained Jennabee led all the way to end Galloway's run of bad luck with a long head win over Show A Heart's half sister, Gondola Girl in Wednesday's Lyndhurst Stud Handicap (1350m).

Galloway, 40, had endured a series of setbacks which has forced him to miss 10 of the past 12 months' riding.

He couldn't recall his last city winner but believed it was Troopingthecolour who won a maiden for trainer Brian Smith at Eagle Farm last March.

Galloway spent seven months on the sidelines after crushing his left foot in the barriers aboard the Smith-trained Jungle Heat at Eagle Farm in April.

He also spent almost four months recovering from knee surgery after being tossed off a horse going to the barriers.

His comeback after fracturing his foot was delayed an extra month when Galloway twisted an ankle on the same leg carrying his son, William, down steps.

"I made my comeback in October after fracturing three bones in my left foot but I decided not to have surgery," Galloway said.

"I was riding Jungle Heat for Brian Smith when he slipped in the barriers and crushed my foot."

"It's a relief to be back riding again and a thrill to win once again in town."

Galloway's time out had its benefits as his partner Lisa Cuddihy fell pregnant with their second child.

Galloway has two sons, step-son Jarred and William.

"We had been trying to have another baby since William was born two and a half years ago," Galloway said.

"Lisa is booked in to have our baby in March so there were some positives to come out of the time I had off."

Galloway's weight ballooned to 63kg but he has now got his weight under control and can ride 53kg.

Galloway's biggest career win was aboard the John Hawkes-trained Ambulance in the 2003 Group One Sires Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm.
