Rothesay continues to please Gerald Ryan ahead of his debut at Rosehill where the trainer expects the colt to hold his own against some high-priced company.

The Fastnet Rock youngster runs in the opening race of Saturday's program, the Blackberry Handicap (1100m).

His opposition includes $2.2 million yearling purchase Metallurgical trained by Patinack Farm's Jason Coyle.

Rothesay, who is out of the Woodman mare Schiaparelli, was passed in for $140,000 at the 2008 Easter Yearling Sales.

Ryan has given the colt a couple of trials with his most recent effort at Rosehill on June 12 ending in a half-length win over First In Command over 900 metres.

"I think he'll run well, he won't disgrace himself put it that way," Ryan said.

"He's a big colt who has shown plenty of ability and goes like a horse who will probably go better over 1400 metres.

"He doesn't have great gate speed and will probably settle back in the field but he'll be getting home."

Also lining up is the Chris Waller-trained, Ingham family-owned Stryker, who cost $600,000 as a yearling and is yet to win from four starts but is stakes-placed.

Stryker, who is also by Fastnet Rock and out of the Woodman mare Laetitia, finished third to Tickets in the Group Two Darley Stakes at Rosehill (1200m) in March.

Darley trainer Peter Snowden has Rarefied who is the topweight with 59.5kg.

The Commands gelding is racing first-up after his seventh to Reward For Effort in the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in February.

A start earlier he finished second to the same horse in the Blue Diamond colts and geldings Preview after winning his first two races at Seymour and Caulfield.

In-form trainer Paul Messara has Not A Single Doubt colt Knot Out who scored on debut at a Randwick midweek meeting on July 8.
