Beautifully bred colt Drumbeats broke through for a well-deserved win in Saturday's Hilton International Stakes at Flemington and trainer Peter Snowden will give plenty of thought to backing him up in next week's Sandown Guineas.

The son of Redoute's Choice, out of the Last Tycoon mare Delicate Choice, had been placed at his first three starts including a second to Montana Flyer in the Group Two Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Randwick when resuming in October.

He then put the writing on the wall with a second to Heart Of Dreams in the Winning Edge Presentations Stakes over Saturday's distance of 1400m at Caulfield on October 18.

"He's a very talented horse. He's only lightly raced and has performed at every start he's had," said Snowden who prepares the colt for Sheikh Mohammed.

"He's still learning and I feel very confident he'll get 1600 metres and 2000 metres and I'll give him the opportunity in the autumn."

The colt completed a running double for jockey Mark Zahra who won the previous event on the Anthony Cummings-trained Road To Rock.

Zahra has a big opinion of Drumbeats whose grand-dam is 1993 VRC Oaks and Thousand Guineas winner Arborea.

"He's an exciting horse and in the autumn he'll be something to be reckoned with," he said.

Snowden will see how Drumbeats does this week before deciding on a Sandown Guineas (1600m) start next Saturday.

"He's lightly raced and I've looked after him, the ball is in his court. If he pulls up well I'll give it a lot of thought," the trainer said.

Once in the clear, Drumbeats ($3.80) finished strongly from sixth to win by a length from Arjuna ($21) with Gold In Dubai ($9) 2-1/4 lengths away third.

"He was in an awkward spot on the corner and to his (Zahra's) credit he waited and the horse was good enough to get the gap and to finish it off," Snowden said.

Eclair Fantastic ($3.60 fav), previously unbeaten in three starts, was given the run of the race behind the leader by Corey Brown but weakened when the pressure went on to finish sixth.
