Double Dare's Brisbane campaign is in doubt with trainer Chris Waller describing the grey's first-up run at Hawkesbury as only fair.

The O'Reilly gelding finished just under a length fifth to Testimonial at Hawkesbury on Saturday in his return from a 17-week spell.

The seven-year-old finished third in last year's Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) and is nominated for the race again on June 6.

He is also nominated for the Doomben 10,000 on May 23.

"It was a fair run but his first run is usually his best," Waller said.

"It would be nice to think we could get there but we have to be realistic."

Apprentice Daniel Ganderton who rode Double Dare on Saturday was pleased with the run.

"I followed Theophorus back to the inside and he got held up for a couple of strides but Double Dare hit the line really well," Ganderton said.

The stakes winning Double Dare has not won since March last year when he defeated He's Canny at Rosehill over 1200 metres.

He has had a history of wind problems over the years which have prevented him from consistently showing his best.

Before his Stradbroke third behind Mr Baritone and Hard To Catch, Double Dare finished fourth in the All-Aged Stakes and fifth in the Doomben 10,000.

He is among the outsiders for the Doomben 10,000 and the Stradbroke but stablemate Danleigh is well in the markets for both races.

He is currently on the second line of betting for the 10,000 (1350m) on May 23 with TAB Sportsbet at $7 alongside Bank Robber with Apache Cat favourite at $3.30.

All Silent heads betting at $8 for the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 6 with Apache Cat, Bank Robber and Danleigh all at $9.

Waller will be represented by Triple Honour in Saturday's Group One Doomben Cup (2020m).

The four-year-old is at $7 with Miss Darcey and Izonit sharing top billing at $6.50.

Triple Honour gave Waller his first Group One victory in the 2008 Doncaster Handicap while Danleigh added a second with his recent All-Aged Stakes win.

Weights for the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap will be released on Monday.
