Trainer Clarry Conners found the perfect remedy for his week-long battle with the flu and he found it in the most unusual of places - standing in the mounting enclosure at Canterbury on a wet and unseasonably freezing spring day.
Conners couldn't wipe the smile off his face after watching Dorf Command produce a barnstorming finish to score by 3-3/4 lengths in the Freeway Republic Beer Hcp (1200m) and declared the win had provided just the tonic he needed.
"I feel better now, that was a great win," Conners said before a heavy downpour forced him to seek shelter under the umbrella of one of Dorf Command's connections.
"I don't know what I'm going to do with her now, that was a very good performance though.
"I'll have a chat with the owners during the week and we'll see what we can find for her.
"She showed a great turn of foot and was given every chance by Daniel Ganderton, it was a good ride."
Dorf Command, who started the $2.60 favourite, was given a quiet ride by three kilo-claiming apprentice Ganderton and was sixth at the 400 metres before ploughing through the dead (five) surface, going on to defeat Special Mention ($5.50).
The win gave Dorf Commands three in a row after a couple of comfortable victories at Kembla Grange.
Meanwhile, trainer Chris Waller celebrated a winning double with Hunters Moon winning the final race of the day, the Freeway Hotel Bistro Handicap (1200m), after he scored with Dragon Dance in the opening event on the seven-race card.
Ridden by Larry Cassidy, Hunters Moon ($31) came from last near the turn to defeat Oakland Lad ($7) by a long head on a track which by then had been downgraded to slow.
Hunters Moon was having his first start for Waller after being transferred from the John Hawkes yard and landed his fifth win from 17 starts.
"He came to us in good order and he was very fit for this race and it really suited him today, with the speed on he was able to fly home," Waller said.
Waller's stakeswinner Mr Ubiquitous ($10) didn't handle the going and finished seventh.
Stablemate Dragon Dance ($3.70) led all the way and held off Fivewest ($3.10 fav) by a nose in the Freeway 2KY Hi-Tide Maiden Plate (1550m).
Corey Brown made it a winning double on the Rod Craig-trained Circle of Fame in the PJ Gallaghers Hcp (1900m) after claiming the Hyland Race Colours Hcp (1200m) on $2 favourite Pinwheel for trainer Peter Snowden.
