Bart Cummings' bid for his 260th Group One win has been boosted after Dariana was cleared to run in the Queensland Derby while Russeting gained a start in the Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm.

With only four Group One races of the season remaining, Russeting snuck in as 18th qualifier for Saturday's 1400-metre Stradbroke when Kiwi sprinter Fritzy Boy was ruled out after pulling up sore following his Group Two QTC Cup failure at Eagle Farm.

Tamworth sprinters The Jackal and Border Rebel will also be missing from the Stradbroke final acceptors on Wednesday.

Cummings is also sweating on another Stradbroke runner to fall by the wayside to enable Latin News, who currently will be the first emergency, to secure a berth.

Latin News was held up for a run and was rated a good thing beaten by jockey Michael Cahill when a close third to Girl Hussler in the Listed Daybreak Lover (1200m) at Eagle Fram last Saturday.

In latest betting with TAB Sportsbet, Latin News is the better of Cummings' Stradbroke hopefuls at $10 with Whobegotyou favourite at $2.50.

Russeting, who finished 12th to Hot Danish in last month's Group One Doomben 10,000, is a $26 chance.

Dariana passed a barrier trial test in front of Queensland Racing stewards on Tuesday following the Breakfast With The Stars trackwork session at Eagle Farm.

Cummings also has Landlord lining up in the Queensland Derby and hopes Brightnight will make the field for the 2400-metre Classic as his third runner.

Landlord is the most favoured of the Cummings Derby runners at $7 on TAB Sportsbet with Dariana at $9 and Brightnight a $17 chance.

Kutchinsky is the $2.80 favourite ahead of The Hombre ($5) and Fieldmaster ($6).

Dariana caused a sensation in the Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm last Saturday when the filly refused to jump with the field after getting her head into an adjoining stall.

However, the daughter of Redoute's Choice was on her best behaviour in Tuesday's 800-metre jumpout which she was eased out of after travelling only 200 metres.

"She was in the gates for a while and there were no problems," chief steward Wade Birch said.

Stewards normally require horses to barrier test twice under similar circumstances but Birch believed Dariana was no danger to other runners in the Queensland Derby.

"She only posed a risk to herself in the Oaks last Saturday so we thought she only needed to jump out once," Birch said.

Dariana will become the ninth filly to win the Derby since 1973 if she's successful.

The previous winners were Riva San (2008), Camarena (1999), Royal Magic (1992), Bravery (1988), Princess Gracious (1987), Tristina (1985), Florissa (1977) and Analie (1973).

Oaks winner Miss Keepsake and runner-up Marheta are also scheduled to back-up in the Derby.

Miss Keepsake is trying to emulate Riva San, Royal Magic, Bravery and Analie as the only fillies to win the Oaks-Derby double since 1973.

Cummings last won the Queensland Derby with Empires Choice in 2007.
