Forgotten stakes winning mare Danehill Smile is pleasing her new trainer Jason Coyle who is eyeing next month's Group Two Breeders Classic at Randwick as a starting point for her autumn campaign.
Coyle inherited Danehill Smile when he recently took over from Anthony Cummings as head trainer for Nathan Tinkler's massive thoroughbred operation Patinack Farm.
The four-year-old had a quiet 740 metre barrier trial at Randwick on Friday when she ran fifth to Law School.
"She went very well, it was a good hitout and she's on track to resume," Coyle said.
"The Breeders Classic (1200m) looks ideal for her, she's a very exciting horse to be working with and it's nice to see her going so well."
The mare burst onto the scene in her two-year-old season with three outstanding victories including the Canonbury Stakes and a five length romp in the Inglis Classic.
She was installed favourite for the Golden Slipper until she finished nearly 20 lengths last in a barrier trial at Randwick a few weeks out from the race.
Although something was obviously wrong, the problem remained a mystery until a fractured vertebra was detected more than a month later.
Then she was hit by the equine influenza virus before suffering a series of niggling muscle related problems.
Tinkler stepped in and bought her while she was recovering from a hock injury incurred in the spelling paddock and she made her debut for Patinack with a fifth to Captain Bax in the Group Three Missile Stakes (1100m) in August last year.
She was spelled again following her last place in the Listed Toy Show Quality (1400m) at Warwick Farm later that month.
Coyle is also relishing the opportunity of working with classy entire Raheeb who he said should be ready to trial within a month.
Raheeb scored a slashing win in the Group Three Cameron Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle last year and has not raced since he failed to beat a runner home in the Cox Plate (2040m) in October.
Prior to that he ran fifth in the Toorak Handicap (1600m) and was unplaced in the Epsom Handicap over the same distance last year.
"He's coming along nicely and once he trials well sit down and work out a program for him," Coyle said.
"He's nominated for the Newmarket (1200m) but we might keep him in Sydney and there's also the Brisbane winter for him where races like the Stradbroke (1400m) and the Doomben 10,000 (1350m) look ideal."
Coyle said the Cameron Handicap win indicated clearly where Raheeb's future is.
"He absolutely smashed them in that run and there's no doubt that's his ideal trip, he definitely wont be racing further than a mile (1600m) and even a mile might be too far," Coyle said.
