Former rogue galloper Danagaze is in line for a trip to Sydney after he demolishing his rivals at Doomben on Saturday.

Danagaze made up for his last-start unlucky second with a dominant win in the $45,000 Entire Recruitment Handicap (1615m).

Danagaze was considered a good thing beaten last start when rider Larry Cassidy encountered a chequered passage in the straight but the leading hoop made amends with a faultless display on Saturday.

The win took Danagaze's career record to four wins, a second and a third from six runs.

Winning trainer Lawrie Mayfield-Smith said he sacked the horse before he had raced because he was such a rogue.

"He was terrible as a young horse. I got rid of him but one of the owners said `you can't get rid of him, I've just put my brother into him as a present'," he said.

Mayfield-Smith and the connections bought Danagaze in a package deal with his elder brother Intertheblack out of a paddock for $25,000.

"I told the owners to sell him because Intertheblack had started to go good but they insisted on giving him a start and he ran third and he's a different horse now," Mayfield-Smith said.

Danagaze ($1.80 fav) enjoyed a nice run midfield and took a few strides to wind up in the straight but once clear the five-year-old hit the line powerfully to score by 3-1/2 lengths.

Newsnight ($15) battled on to finish second with Pea Eye Cee ($19) a neck back third.

Mayfield-Smith said Danagaze was shaping like he was looking for 2000 metres and said the horse would likely head to Sydney as a travelling companion for stable star Tunahog.

"The way he took a few strides to wind up makes me think he wants 2000 metres and I've had a bit of sneaky look at some races down there for him," Mayfield-Smith said.

"Tunahog is going down and I'll have a chat to the owners about taking him down as well."

Tunahog is the winner of three of his four starts and has not raced since running fourth at Eagle Farm in July.
