A Doncaster Mile start has all but been ruled out for Strike The Stars as trainer Anthony Cummings expects the three-year-old to underline his Australian Derby credentials in the Rosehill Guineas.

"The Doncaster was always more of a precaution race for him ... it was there was a fallback in case something went wrong," Cummings said.

"But the way he is going we don't have to head that way."

Instead, Cummings will set the Group One placegetter for the $1.5 million Australian Derby with a start against older horses at weight-for-age in $2.25 million BMW still a possibility.

Both races are run over 2400m.

"There's a chance he could back up after the Guineas and run in the BMW depending on how he comes through Saturday," Cummings said.

Strike The Stars lines up in Saturday's middle leg of Sydney's autumn triple crown for three-year-olds chasing a breakthrough Group One win with Blake Shinn replacing Hugh Bowman.

He was denied by Mosheen when runner-up in the Australian Guineas at Flemington earlier this month and had to settle for a midfield finish behind the Melbourne filly in the Randwick Guineas.

Of a progression to the 2000m of the Rosehill Guineas, Cummings said: "I'd say he looks the right horse in the right sort of race.

"With a touch of luck, which he is overdue for, I'd expect him to be in the finish.

"The breaks didn't go his way in the Randwick Guineas. It was the sort of race where you needed a break.

"The only luck he had was bad luck."

With Mosheen saved for the $400,000 Vinery Stud Stakes on April 7, the Australian Turf Club received 23 nominations for the Guineas boosted by a strong New Zealand contingent headed by Bowman's mount, the Roger James-trained Silent Achiever.

The only filly entered, Silent Achiever is on a winning streak of four successive victories over her male rivals, including her last-start New Zealand Derby triumph.

Corey Brown holds a Guineas booking for Paul Messara's Rekindled Alliance despite some uncertainty over the three-year-old taking his place in the field.

Rekindled Alliance finished a close second in the Phar Lap Stakes on Saturday, confirming his Australian Derby campaign was back on track.

The Paul Messara-trained galloper raced in the Phar Lap after he was scratched from the Randwick Guineas because of a wet track.

Missing the Randwick Guineas will force Rekindled Alliance into a seven-day back-up at some stage before the Australian Derby on April 14.

Besides the Rosehill Guineas, Messara also has the option of racing Rekindled Alliance in the Tulloch Stakes next week.

"It's not definite Rekindled Alliance will go around in the Rosehill Guineas but for us it's better to sit there and wait and see with Corey already booked," the jockey's agent Brett Grant said.
