Unfashionable mare Cruisy Lady will be on a mission to prove her Civic Stakes placing was no fluke when she strives to go one better in the Listed Winter Stakes at Rosehill.

Cruisy Lady is trained by Greg Bennett, a renowned horseman who also runs a breaking and pre-training facility at Scone in the NSW Hunter Valley and has overseen the early education of the likes of champion Makybe Diva and the unbeaten Typhoon Tracy.

Cruisy Lady started at $71 when a half-neck second to Hadaaf last start but far from the run being a flash in the pan, Bennett believes the mare finally showed what she is capable of with even luck.

"I think sometimes people tend to discount her because she comes from Scone," Bennett said.

"Her run the other day was definitely no fluke and hopefully she can prove that it wasn't by performing well on Saturday.

"It would be wonderful if she won but even if she could run in the first three it would add more to her value as a broodmare."

Prior to Cruisy Lady's Civic Stakes placing Bennett had endured a frustrating campaign with the five-year-old.

After scoring first-up at Tamworth in April she was badly blocked for a run when unplaced in the Dark Jewel Classic at Scone won by Rio Osa.

She bounced back with a win at her home track next start but again had no luck when sixth to Imtops at Rosehill in June.

"She was on the inside and couldn't get off the fence but she wasn't beaten far. She just didn't get a crack at them," Bennett said.

"The same thing happened in the Dark Jewel at Scone.

"She was held up for a run the whole way up the straight, a bit like Strat's Flyer the other week - I've been there twice in her last three or four starts."

Strat's Flyer started favourite in the Civic Stakes but was bailed up for a run and went to the line untested in ninth place.

He is again set to be among Cruisy Lady's rivals on Saturday, as is her last-start conqueror Hadaaf.

Also entered for the feature is the Kevin Moses-trained Mr Unforgettable who missed a planned start in the Civic Stakes after a shoeing mishap.

"The farrier put a hole in his hoof two weeks ago," Moses said.

"But he galloped well yesterday and today he went to the beach and the vets are happy with him.

"All we need now is a jockey."

The two-year-old races will also hold plenty of interest with $2.2 million colt Metallurgical nominated for the colts and geldings division and debutante Fiction, a daughter of Redoute's Choice out of 2003 Golden Slipper winner Polar Success, set to tackle the race for fillies.
