Australian jockey Craig Williams has claimed a Group One win in Japan, taking out the NHK Mile in Tokyo aboard Grand Prix Boss.

Williams has just begun a three-month contract in Japan but will be hoping to go further afield with trainer Yoshito Yahago targeting Grand Prix Boss at races in England.

Grand Prix Boss was the champion two-year-old in Japan last year but had not recorded a win in 2011 until Sunday's Group One.

Earlier this week Yahagi said the NHK Mile was a must-win race for the colt.

"If we want to go to England, we've got to win here," he said.

"His father Sakura Bakushin O has passed and we want him to beat the best in Europe so he can become a world-class sire. This race means nothing to us if we don't win."

Grand Prix Boss beat Cotillion by 1-1/2 lengths with three-quarters of a length to third placed Real Impact.
