Sydney jockey Jim Cassidy will make a surprise riding appearance at Eagle Farm ahead of his bid for his 100th Group One winner aboard Sniper's Bullet in the Kingston Town Classic at Ascot in Perth.

Cassidy, who hasn't ridden in Queensland since he was sidelined for six months following an horrific fall on Bonza Crop at Eagle Farm in June last year, will head north as a favour for close friend Nick Moraitis.

He has two definite rides on Wednesday, on the Troy Hall-trained debutante Grey Gem in the Cleanevent Maiden (1000m) and Dive At Five in the Cleanevent Plate (1500m).

The former Kiwi also is on standby for the Hall-trained Raspberry Licorice, the third emergency in the Cleanevent Group Handicap (1000m).

Cassidy will return to Sydney on Wednesday night and has turned down several offers to ride at Canterbury on Thursday to travel to Perth early where he will be reunited with Sniper's Bullet in Saturday's 1800-metre weight-for-age feature.

Cassidy's association with Moraitis goes back many years and is highlighted by their unforgettable win with champion stayer Might And Power in the 1997 Melbourne Cup.

Cassidy's career of late has been punctured by the Bonza Crop fall which left him with a broken ankle, four broken ribs and injuries to both knees while his most recent setback occurred in April when he suffered multiple fractures to his right hand after falling from two-year-old Andretti after the running of the Baillieu Handicap at Randwick.

However, Cassidy overcame his latest setback to resume his career in July and will be vying for the career milestone aboard Sniper's Bullet.

Cassidy been sitting on 99 Group One wins since he won the 2006 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield on Red Dazzler.

He has 81 Group One wins in Australia and 18 at the elite level in New Zealand.

Cassidy's manager Matt Privato said the jockey "never hesitated" when Moraitis called to ask him to detour to Brisbane before heading to Perth.

"He's going to Brisbane to ride purely as a favour for Nick," Privato said.

"When Nick called and asked if he would go to Brisbane for a couple of rides he never hesitated."

Privato, who quit riding in 2006, said he fluked Cassidy's ride on Sniper's Bullet in Perth.

"I was listening to a radio interview and heard Michael Rodd was not going back to Perth to ride Sniper's Bullet so I rang his trainer Tracey Bartley," he said.

Rodd ride the five-year-old when narrowly beaten by Gilded Venom in the Group One Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot last month.

Cassidy finished second on Sniper's Bullet in the Group Two Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Randwick last year.
