Larry Cassidy will lock himself away to study replays of Beaded's autumn and winter form after receiving the call-up to replace injured jockey Kerrin McEvoy for the mare's Group One assignment in the Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Cassidy rode four winners at Doomben on Wednesday and left the course without a ride in Saturday's 1400-metre feature.

His immediate thoughts were focused on winning his first Brisbane jockeys' premiership until the offer came for Beaded.

Cassidy, who is in his first full season riding in Brisbane, leapfrogged Stathi Katsidis into second place and took his season's tally to 61 wins, only three behind leader Jim Byrne, with his quartet of winners.

McEvoy suffered back injuries in a dramatic fall also involving apprentice Alex Stokes in the straight of Wednesday's Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford.

Stokes escaped serious injury in the fall and was back riding on Thursday.

Cassidy has never ridden for trainer Peter Snowden but was scheduled to have his first ride for the Sydney trainer on Jerezana who was a late scratching at the barriers in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich last Saturday.

"I've got Beaded's last two starts on my computer at home but I'll go back and get a few more of her runs and look at them all tomorrow," Cassidy said.

"It's unfortunate for Kerrin and not the best way to get a ride in a Group One."

Cassidy has ridden 42 Group One winners during his career which began in New Zealand, the latest coming aboard Kiwi stayer Court Ruler in last year's Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm.

Snowden believes the Winter Stakes is a very strong race but his confidence soared after Beaded drew perfectly in barrier two.

The Peter Moody-trained Set For Fame drew well in barrier four while Sydney filly Melito drew gate 13.

"She's got six kilograms more than her last run in the Stradbroke and I'd like to see her take a sit," Snowden said of Beaded.

"It was a terrible fall for Kerrin. There's good news and bad news but we won't know until later the full extent of his injuries.

"I think Kerrin will be out for a while."

Snowden is expected to decide Beaded's future after the Winter Stakes.

The daughter of Lonhro could be retired to the breeding barn or more realistically be spelled to prepare for the latter end of the Melbourne spring carnival before another autumn campaign in Sydney.

Beaded produced an eye-catching performance last start in the Group One Stradbroke Handicap off a near outside barrier when she finished fourth, less than half a length from the winner Black Piranha.

It was the first time Beaded had finished out of the placings in her 14-start career which has produced eight wins.
