Cape Breton's Queensland campaign could be cut short unless he stages a form reversal in Saturday's Listed Caloundra Cup.

Trainer Danny Williams is hoping the combination of a soft track and 2400 metres will bring out the best in the Peintre Celebre six-year-old.

The Caloundra track was rated a heavy (10) on Friday but has been declared safe for racing.

"All along we planned to go Caloundra Cup and then the Queensland Cup (3200m) next week but he needs to aim up on Saturday to warrant keeping him going," Williams said.

Cape Breton comes into the Caloundra Cup after running ninth in the Tattersalls' Cup (2200m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday.

He finished in the same position the run before in the Ipswich Cup (2150m)

"He's lost a lot of his speed and he needs to go up to 2400 and is looking for that bit further now, hopefully the soft track and the extra distance might help him change things around," Williams said.

Prior to being taken to Queensland, Cape Breton finished second to Macknuckle in the Listed Wagga Cup (2000m) after winning over the same distance at Randwick a start earlier.

"He's just been getting a bit too far back lately, so I'm hoping to see him in a more forward position," Williams said.

In February last year Cape Breton was beaten a short head by Vision And Power over 2000 metres.

Vision And Power went on to produce a stunning autumn campaign this year winning both the George Ryder Stakes and the Doncaster.
