Burdekin Blues won't be heading bush for a shock comeback on Saturday and could also miss the Group Three George Moore Stakes at Eagle Farm next month.

Trainer Barry Baldwin was giving serious consideration to starting Burdekin Blues in his former home town of Roma, in southwest Queensland, where he has topweight of 63 kilograms in a 1000-metre Flying.

Baldwin is concerned Burdekin Blues, who is on the comeback trail from injury, is carrying too much condition to start first-up over 1200 metres in the George Moore Stakes on December 4.

"I'm trying to get him ready to run in the George Moore but there's no 1000-metre lead-up races in town for him first-up," Baldwin said.

"There's a 1000-metre race he's well weighted in at Roma on Saturday and I was seriously thinking of starting him there."

However, Baldwin changed his mind after seeing how Burdekin Blues pulled up following a 960-metre jumpout at Doomben on Tuesday.

"He ran second in the jumpout but he pulled up a bit big after it so I've ruled out taking him to Roma," he said.

"Unless he comes to hand quickly then he may also miss the George Moore.

"It's when they get to fast pace horses come to hand quickly so I haven't given up entirely on the George Moore yet."

Baldwin's back-up plan will be to start the six-year-old first-up in the $100,000 Bat Out Of Hell Handicap (900m) at the Gold Coast on New Year's day.

Burdekin Blues won the George Moore Stakes and Bat Out Of Hell last campaign on the back of a three-start build-up which included a victory in the Listed Grazia Style (1100m) at Flemington on VRC Oaks day last year.

The son of Sequalo hasn't started since finishing eighth to Nicconi in the Group One Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on January 30.

He was then being aimed at the Group One The Galaxy in Sydney in April when Baldwin became unhappy with the gelding's recovery from ligament damage suffered in the Lightning.

Burdekin Blues subsequently underwent surgery on both front knees which ruled him out of the Brisbane winter carnival and the spring carnivals in Sydney and Melbourne.
