Brisbane Turf Club (BTC) chairman Wayne Milner has resigned from the newly-formed Brisbane Racing Club (BRC).

Milner, who served for 12 months as BTC chairman, quit his position to be eligible to contest elections as a board member for Queensland Racing Limited (QRL).

Under strict QRL regulations no member of a race club can contest the QRL board elections which will be held at its annual general meeting in November.

The BRC was formed last October following a merger between the BTC and its long-time rival, the Queensland Turf Club.

It will begin operations from July 1.

BRC chairman Kevin Dixon paid tribute to Milner's role during the merger process.

"Wayne stepped forward at a time of great turmoil," Dixon said.

"Unfortunately he's had to resign his position with the new board because of QRL's requirement that no member of a race club can contest the election for a place on the QRL board."

The BTC was formed in 1923 and conducted its last race meeting at Doomben on Wednesday.
