Racing is a tough game - just ask Sydney trainer Les Bridge.

Bridge is most famous as the trainer of 1987 Melbourne Cup winner Kensei and 1983 Golden Slipper winner Sir Dapper.

More recently Bridge hit the headlines with glamour mare Hot Danish who won last year's Group One Doomben 10,000 and All-Aged Stakes at Randwick.

They were some of the highs for Bridge.

The lows came this year when Hot Danish, one of the most popular horses of the modern era, had to be euthanased after contracting a leg infection.

Hot Danish was purchased for $32,000 as a yearling and finished her career with 16 wins from 31 starts for prize money of more than $2.3 million.

Bridge has moved on since the tragedy and will be back in town on Saturday to saddle up Mr Clangtastic in the Group Three Premier's Cup (2200m) at Doomben.

The seven-year-old broke down for his former trainer Marc Conners following a Randwick placing in February last year before being switched to Bridge's stable at the start of his current campaign.

Mr Clangtastic has had only three starts for Bridge and is coming off a last-start second to Queensland Derby favourite Shootoff in the Lord Mayor's Cup (1900m) at Canterbury on May 7.

He previously finished a creditable fourth to Keepin' The Dream in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury last month.

Bridge is hoping a forecast for showers on race day eventuates to help boost the gelding's claims in the Premier's Cup.

"When he came into my stables he had a longer time off than was really needed after breaking down," Bridge said.

"He's only just running into fitness now after three runs in and he's got a good chance tomorrow.

"I hope the forecast for rain is right as the wetter the better for him."

Mr Clangtastic is being stabled at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast after arriving safely by float on Thursday.

"He travelled up good but he's a real mudlark so I hope it does rain," Bridge said.

Bridge is aiming Mr Clangtastic towards the Group Two Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 11.

"The 2400 metres of the Brisbane Cup is going to suit him a lot better than 2200 metres tomorrow," he said.

"I'm happy with his form, particularly his last run behind Shootoff who went on to run fourth in the Doomben Cup last week."
