Danzero colt Tricky Tricky will be searching for a winning "beat" in the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield.

Trainer Leon Corstens will meet with jockey Michael Rodd on Thursday ahead of Saturday's feature after the two-year-old forgot to breathe when he finished second at his only start in the Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington last month.

Rodd replaces Brent Stanley on Tricky Tricky who led in the Talindert but couldn't hold off one of the Blue Diamond favourites, Star Witness.

Corstens' son Troy said it appeared that Tricky Tricky didn't like being restrained as much as he was in the lead and that Rodd would be instructed to give the horse more rein to find his rhythm in the 1200m Blue Diamond.

"The horse held his breath a bit first time down the straight and didn't know what was going on, but I think around the corner he is going to be a lot better," Corstens said.

"We are meeting with Michael tomorrow and we will sit down and watch his race start and his trials.

"We won't be restraining him as much on Saturday to make sure the horse gets his breathing right and is comfortable and well and truly in rhythm.

"I think the horse will do the rest."

Tricky Tricky finished only 1-1/2 lengths behind the unbeaten Star Witness but 10 points separate them in the betting with the Danny O'Brien-trained colt at $8 and Tricky Tricky at $18 with TAB Sportsbet.

A graduate of the BC3 Thoroughbreds pre-training process, Tricky Tricky was a $40,000 yearling before being on-sold to Corstens for $120,000.

"He looks a good buy now," Corstens said.

"He's a nice little horse and I reckon a few people would buy him for $120,000 now to have a runner in the Blue Diamond."

Corstens said barrier one was perfect for the youngster who is a natural runner.

"He flies the machine and he's quick and from that barrier he can make his own luck," Corstens said.

"I think he will run a cheeky race."

Blue Diamond Prelude winner Beneteau remains at the head of the Diamond chart at $3.60 in front of another Prelude winner, Psychologist, at $6.50.

The David Hayes-trained Evidentia returned from Lindsay Park on Wednesday and has tightened in the market from $31 before the barrier draw to $21.

Hayes' other runners are Shaaheq ($14) and Legalistic ($21).
