Australian jockey Tye Angland has earned high praise with a breakthrough Hong Kong win.
Angland rode his first winner since accepting a four-month Hong Kong contract when he partnered Global Win to victory in the first race at Sha Tin on Sunday.
A one-time champion Sydney apprentice, Angland arrived in Hong Kong last week.
"He has a nice style and good hands and, with a lot of jockeys out on suspension at the moment, I was willing to give him a chance," Global Win's trainer Derek Cruz told the South China Morning Post.
"He rode all four of my horses very well and I'll continue to use him wherever I can."
Cruz said he first became aware of Angland's talents when he campaigned Joy And Fun during Royal Ascot earlier this year.
Angland was in England as the jockey for Australian mare Alverta in a three-start European campaign highlighted by a July Cup placing at Newmarket.
There was a further Australian influence on the Sha Tin meeting with Turf Express making a winning Hong Kong debut.
Turf Express was exported earlier this year after his career with leading Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse included a Listed win on protest at Flemington and a Sandown Guineas placing.
