Hugh Bowman continued a nostalgic couple of days when he reunited with his old boss Ron Quinton to win aboard Angel's Breath at Rosehill.
The leading Sydney jockey returned to his western NSW roots on Friday to win the Mudgee Cup on Juerga and 24 hours later steered Angel's Breath to an all-the-way victory in the Rosehill Event Centre Handicap (1300m).
Quinton, an eight-time Sydney premiership winning jockey and a Group One trainer, has scaled down his stable because of his position at Racing NSW where his duties include being a mentor to apprentice riders.
Bowman won the apprentices' title when he was based with Quinton at Randwick and has developed into a Group One-winning jockey, most recently as the partner of Samantha Miss.
"It's pretty busy during the carnivals but when the opportunity arises to go back up there to the country I love to go," Bowman said.
"And it's great to ride winners for Ron."
Quinton said he was unsure of future plans for Angel's Breath who has now won two of her five starts, both since she turned three.
"She is a very relaxed filly as she showed by the way she settled in front today," he said.
"She is also extremely tough. She was the least affected of my horses when EI (equine influenza) hit.
"That shows how tough she is.
"I'm not sure what we will do with her in the autumn but she has a bright future."
Angel's Breath ($3.70) held off the favourite Blackbriar ($2.70) by 1-3/4 lengths with Altavilla ($3.20) another half-head away third.
