Hugh Bowman has lost his appeal against the severity of a two-month suspension for careless riding in an incident in which three horses fell and their three jockeys were injured.

The fall at Rosehill on December 10 resulted in Peter Robl suffering a broken vertebrae, Blake Shinn a broken wrist and Jeff Lloyd concussion and bruising.

Lloyd returned to the saddle on New Year's Day while Robl and Shinn will be sidelined for some weeks to come.

Bowman, who was leading the Sydney premiership when he began his ban on December 15, will be able to return to riding on February 7, the day the Group Two Expressway Stakes is run.

Star filly Samantha Miss, one of Bowman's prized autumn rides, is expected to make her race return the following week in the Light Fingers Stakes.

At the inquiry into the incident, Bowman admitted he had shifted out on to Rodney Quinn's horse which subsequently bumped Lloyd's mount but said he believed he was entitled to do so.

Lloyd's horse came down and Robl and Shinn were unable to steer their mounts clear and also fell.

Bowman won the race on Withoutme.

The Racing NSW appeal panel agreed the stewards' ban of 27 meetings should stand.
