Trainer Mick Price believes the Group Two Australia Stakes will be a race for second if exciting filly Black Caviar takes her place in Friday's night's feature.

Price, who will start Heart Of Dreams, said the unbeaten Peter Moody-trained Black Caviar thrashed his smart filly Aloha by eight lengths in a trial at Caulfield, while Heart Of Dreams was not fully wound up for his first-up run.

"He's not quick enough and if Black Caviar runs it will win. She's flying," Price said.

Moody wants to see Black Caviar gallop at Caulfield on Tuesday morning before deciding whether she will tackle the 1200m weight-for-age feature first-up.

If she doesn't run on Friday night she will resume in the Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Australia Day next Tuesday.

Price has a good record in the Australia Stakes - formerly known as the Norman Carlyon Stakes - winning it with Slavonic (2000) and Vocabulary (2004) and finishing second with Intelligent Star in 2002 and Light Fantastic, who was runner-up to Lucky Secret last year.

"We'll be looking for a finishing type of effort over 1200 metres and I'll be happy if he runs in the first three," Price said of Heart Of Dreams.

"He's had one 650 metre trial, he's above himself in condition and he hasn't been specifically trained to win first-up.

"I'm just looking at him running well but not being as well suited as some of the others."

Heart Of Dreams, a dual Group One winner of the Australian Guineas (1600m) and the Underwood Stakes (1800m), hasn't run since finishing seventh to So You Think in the Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley nearly three months ago.

Black Caviar made it four from four when she won the Group Two Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 5 but was spelled after pulling a chest muscle when blundering at the start of that event.

There were 10 entries for the Australia Stakes on Monday including Group One Golden Rose winner Denman, Lucky Secret, Christmas Stakes winner Here De Angels and Standish Handicap winner Royal Ida.

Denman, a winner of six of his eight starts, is not a confirmed starter and will resume in the Zeditave Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield next Tuesday if the Peter Snowden stable decides to bypass the Australia Stakes.

The Lonhro colt hasn't raced since finishing seventh as favourite to Starspangledbanner in the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 10.
