Peter Moody will use a barrier blanket for the first time to aid exciting filly Black Caviar to jump away cleanly in Friday night's Group Two Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley.
The massive three-year-old will face only five rivals at what will be her first weight-for-age test against older horses.
She was found to have torn a muscle in her chest when she blundered on jumping away in the Group Two Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 5.
She maintained her unbeaten record in that race by defeating stablemate Wanted but the setback forced her to miss the rest of the spring carnival.
"There have been no dramas loading or in the gates, she just seems to come out of them very awkwardly," Moody said.
"I think that's from a tendency to try and begin too quick and, one thing I've noticed with most horses who wear barrier blankets, they tend to come away a little slower and nearly always a neck behind the field.
"In her case, in the two jump outs she's had here at Caulfield earlier in the month, she's begun on terms with the field nicely and hasn't scrambled or anything when she's come out the other side."
Moody added that in the last three of her four runs Black Caviar had had to pick herself up after awkward getaways which he believed were caused by the filly trying to anticipate the start.
With Group One Golden Rose winner Denman and prolific sprint winner Lucky Secret not among acceptances for the 1200m feature on Wednesday morning, Black Caviar, who drew barrier five, is a long odds-on favourite at $1.35 with TAB Sportsbet.
Amongst those she will face at the Valley are last start Christmas Stakes winner Here De Angels ($4.40), dual Group One winner Heart Of Dreams ($8.50) and last start Standish Hcp winner Royal Ida ($12).
La Rocket is at $35 with late entry Ferocia the rank outsider at $151.
"This looks a nice race to kick her off in," Moody said of Black Caviar.
The filly had a gallop with a stablemate over 800m at Caulfield on Monday morning, brushing home the last 600m.
"She worked nice and solid and I was happy with the way she came through it," Moody said.
Moody said he was looking to keep Black Caviar at the Valley for her next start in the Group One William Reid Stakes (1200m) on February 13.
"Hopefully she'll get through Friday night in one piece and we'll kick on towards the William Reid if she warrants a crack at a race like that," he said.
Moody said he hadn't yet given much thought to running Black Caviar in the $1 million Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 6 despite her being the $5.50 favourite.
"Bearing in mind that she's a three-year-old filly who has only performed against her own age group and hasn't stepped outside of that, it's a long way down the track thinking she should be favourite for the Newmarket I believe," he said.
