A stewards' inquiry into allegations of betting by Gold Coast jockey Daniel Griffin has been adjourned after accusations against him were withdrawn.

The inquiry on Thursday heard evidence that bets ranging up to $2000 were placed on a UNiTAB account held by Jana Piper when she was a stablehand and before she became a licensed apprentice at the Gold Coast.

One bet of $2000 was placed via the internet on the Trevor Bailey-trained My Elixa who won as $1.80 favourite at Ipswich in March when ridden by Griffin.

Under the rules of racing no jockey is allowed to bet on thoroughbred racing.

The bets were found on Griffin's computer which was seized by stewards and forensically tested by a computer expert.

Other bets discovered on the computer's hard drive ranged from only a few dollars each way to the biggest bet of $2000.

Piper withdrew her allegations against Griffin when the inquiry opened on Thursday.

She cited a personal grievance for raising the allegations against Griffin when interviewed by stewards in September.

Piper told the inquiry she had not at any time placed a bet on behalf of, or at the request of Griffin.

"The allegations that Daniel Griffin placed bets on her (Piper's) account and that she had placed bets on the same account on his behalf were withdrawn by Jana Piper," chief steward Wade Birch said.

"She said the bets were all made when she was a stablehand between September last year and May this year."

Birch said the inquiry would reconvene on Wednesday after both parties were asked to supply their personal bank and phone account records for that period.

Piper has been stood down until she provides stewards with a medical report stating she is capable of riding while Griffin is free to ride while the inquiry continues.

The inquiry is the latest involving jockeys and betting.

Sydney jockeys Blake Shinn and Peter Robl were last week given long bans for betting via Tabcorp accounts registered to family members while Queensland rider Lyle Finlay received a three-month suspension after an inquiry in Brisbane on Monday.

Shinn, who won the 2008 Melbourne Cup aboard Viewed was hit with a 15-month ban while Robl was slapped with a year-long disqualified.

Finlay was charged with placing bets at a Beaudesert hotel TAB and making a false statement to a Queensland steward.

The jockey pleaded guilty to both charges.
