Michael Cahill's hopes of a feature win before continuing his riding career overseas have been dealt a blow following a horror barrier draw for Lucky Luna in the Tattersall's Member's Cup at Eagle Farm.

The Les Kelly-trained Lucky Luna, an impressive last-start winner at Doomben, drew the outside barrier, 21, in Saturday's Listed 1600-metre feature.

Kelly's luck also deserted him when another Cahill mount, Skating On Ice, drew gate 19 in the Hardy Brothers Jewellers Handicap (1200m).

Cahill is riding for the last time in Brisbane this year after accepting an offer to link with leading Mauritius trainer Hugues Maigro.

"Saturday is my last day before I head to Mauritius," Cahill said.

"I'll be there for nine months until the end of December."

The 45-year-old came to Queensland in 1996, originally to ride on the Gold Coast for the powerful Bruce McLachlan stable, but early success meant he became a regular at Brisbane Saturday meetings.

Cahill enjoys the challenge of riding in other countries, particularly in places where they race just twice a week.

He has already ridden in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea and Singapore.

Cahill's Brisbane CV includes two Group Ones, in the 2001 Doomben 10,000 on Falvelon and 2005 Stradbroke Handicap with St. Basil.

Kelly will confer with connections of both Lucky Luna and Skating On Ice to decide if the pair will run but his first instincts are to proceed.

"It's unbelievable they both drew that wide," Kelly said.

"It's going to be tough for both to win. I'm looking more to the future with them so they'll probably start.

"They're used to starting from the outside so it's no great shock."

Kelly has no major plans in mind for Lucky Luna, unlike Skating On Ice who will be aimed at the Brisbane winter carnival.

"Both horses are flying and I couldn't be happier with them," Kelly said.

"I don't have any big plans for Lucky Luna but I want to get this run out of the way before he's freshened-up.

"Skating On Ice also will freshen-up after this run and will be aimed for the Gold Coast Guineas.

"She could even end up running in the Stradbroke as fillies have a good record in it."

The Group Three Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) will be run on May 7.
