An autumn Group One result for Peter Moody could have some residual value for the Melbourne trainer when he saddles up Ghostmilk at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Moody stable says it will learn more about Ghostmilk's immediate future when she runs in the Listed $100,000 Winter Stakes (1500m).

Ghostmilk will clash with last-start Civic Stakes winner Illuminates and a positive outcome will go a long way towards confirming an early spring campaign.

Illuminates ran the best race of her career when she came from 10th on the turn to finish second to Moody's outstanding mare Typhoon Tracy in the Group One Queen Of The Turf Stakes on Golden Slipper day.

It's a form link which excites Moody's racing manager Jeff O'Connor.

"If we can pluck a top two finish around Illuminates we'll be very happy with that," he said.

"Through Typhoon Tracy we are well aware of what Illuminates is capable of so Saturday's race will be a terrific guide."

A track rated in the slow range as well as a sizeable pull in the weights over Illuminates helped clinch a trip to Sydney for the in-form mare.

"Once Peter found out the track was given out on the slow side with minimal chance of improvement, she was on the float," O'Connor said.

"The 5kg we are getting off Illuminates is also enough of a carrot."

Moody will renew a once successful Victorian association with jockey Peter Robl.

"Going back four or five years ago Peter rode a lot of winners for us around the provincials down here and he also did the job in town," O'Connor said.

"It's been a very good partnership and we're happy to go with what we know."

Robl plies his trade out of Sydney these days as a jockey for Patinack Farm after he was encouraged to make the move north by Warwick Farm trainer Clarry Conners.

While Moody has stayed put at Caulfield, he's been a serious mover among the Melbourne training ranks and will celebrate his first metropolitan premiership success this season.

Ghostmilk did her early racing in England and Ireland, winning once over 1400 metres before being imported to Australia by OTI Racing, a syndicate which involves former Test cricketer Simon O'Donnell.

She has been a winter discovery in Melbourne, winning her past three starts in a convincing manner.
