Jockey Steven Arnold says So You Think will be fitter for Saturday's Underwood Stakes at Caulfield but isn't expecting him to be lengths better than his stunning first-up win in the Memsie Stakes.

Arnold said he was confident the four-year-old would win and is excited about the prospect of keeping his Cox Plate dream alive.

"I have won one race on him and he is an impressive horse," Arnold said.

"I have been on him a couple of times since the Memsie and it will be nice to see him again in the Underwood.

"We all know racing and that they can be beaten but hopefully it is a nice stepping stone for him for future races."

"He has probably got a bit fitter but he won't be lengths better.

"Horses like him run to their ability first-up.

"It was a contest for him in the Memsie and he was strong at the finish."

So You Think has won four of his seven starts including last year's Cox Plate at only his fifth run.

He is TAB Sportsbet's $3.80 favourite for this year's Cox Plate ahead of the two horses that were placed behind him in the Memsie, Whobegotyou ($6) and Shoot Out ($8.50).

The Memsie form held up last week when Whobegotyou beat Typhoon Tracy and Shoot Out in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.

Arnold said So You Think should be zippier than a lot of his Underwood rivals.

"Probably the horses (in the Dato Tan Chin Nam) last Saturday are better weight-for-age horses while this week he is up against a few staying types," Arnold said.

He said that from barrier two So You Think would race forward on Saturday.

"I galloped him the other day at the Valley and he was beautiful and relaxed," Arnold said.

"The key with him is that he can switch off and he has a high cruising speed."

So You Think dominates the Underwood betting at $1.80 and only last year's winner Heart Of Dreams ($6) and Metal Bender ($7) are given any real chance of beating him.

Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, who last start won the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m), is at $10 while So You Think's Bart Cummings-trained Queensland Derby-winning stablemate Dariana is $18.

Cummings last won the Underwood with Bounty Hawk in 1984. His other winners were Big Philou (1970) and Lowland (1968).

Cummings was hoping to have three Underwood runners but Moatize was scratched after acceptances on Wednesday after suffering a tendon injury and will be sidelined for several months.

Meanwhile, Cummings has also lost Sirmione due to a suspensory injury.

The Encosta De Lago seven-year-old, winner of the 2007 Mackinnon Stakes and 2008 Australian Cup, was being set for the Mackinnon at Flemington on Derby Day.
