Well, here we go: the carnival is starting to warm up. This weekend the races at Caulfield and Rosehill are starting to tantalize serious punters. How is Tickets, a major player in the Autumn, going to go first up? It all depends on Starspangledbanner's ability to run 1200m and Tollespirit's first up ability. Is Miss Maren a real Spring chance (I believe she is)? Who is better? Do we forgive Marchelle Belle for her last start when she was caught wide or do we forgive Tonic for her so called luck

Do we forgive Marchelle Belle for her last start when she was caught wide or do we forgive Tonic for her so called luckless run last start or do we plant our faith on the trier, Partiva? Is First Command good enough to win first up in a pretty solid looking open company field? Can Mic Mac, an on pacer, who should get all the breaks sitting off the pace be able to outsprint Whobegotyou and El Segundo? Question after question. Succulent thinking, isn't it!

Looking North of the Victorian border we ask who is the best horse in the Golden Rose? Wouldn't you think a last start wfa winner (Trusting) should account for any three year old, usually, BUT let's have a look at the barriers. There is very little doubt Denman will obtain the best run during the race but is he actually the best horse in the race? Will the barriers make a difference or will those who drop back just simply overpower the front runners? Often we punters are just guessing when trying to suss out the early three year old races and I am finding a similar problem in this race.

At this stage where do we place Voice Coach? Is he a serious spring contender or just another winter wonder? In the Concorde Stakes we have last start wfa dead heater Kroner, the bold front running Gold Trail and the most promising Fist Of Fury to salivate over. One thing is for sure: Kroner will be behind both at the home turn but what will happen after that?

Oh yes! Bring it on. I am about to put the kettle on and in between listening to the Richmond - Fremantle game (I have backed Richmond on Betfair at $2.94 to win the first quarter) I will decide my final thoughts in readiness for the scratchings and track conditions. I will also decide between Hay List and Comic Hero in Perth as the night moves on. The last two weeks in Perth have been really, really good with Comic Hero 3/1 and Idyllic Prince at 4/1 saluting as Perth best bets so I am keen to strike with a hat trick.

All will unfold in my podcast tomorrow.
