Will wew hit the Poms for six? British bookies say they're going to be slammed for a big payout if Australian sprinter Nicconi wins Tuesday night's Grp 1 King's Stand Stakes (1000m) at Royal Ascot. Most bookies there have been offering 5/2 about Nicconi. UK website Betting Directory says: 'Visiting horses have done really well just lately at Royal Ascot as such we think that Nicconi will be a very tough nut to crack in this and we will not be deterring punters from supporting him with hard cash.

The Aussie #2 King's Stand runner Gold Trail is around the 8/1 mark.

Latest preview fvrom the UK on the King's Stand Stakes (from At The Races):

This race has been won by Australian raiders four times in the last seven years and the trophy could return down under this year courtesy of NICCONI. David Hayes' speedball is unbeaten over 5f and is a dual Group 1 winner, while the fact he hasn't raced since a disappointing performance (run may have come to soon after his previous outing) in March is no concern as he has a fine record fresh. He is reported to have been in good form since arriving on these shores and can give his trainer a successful first runner in the UK. The home team's challenge is led by Kingsgate Native, an impressive winner of the Group 3 Audi Stakes at Goodwood last year and arriving here on the back of a Group 2 victory from the reopposing Equiano (2nd), Borderlescott (3rd), Spin Cycle (fourth) ,Total Gallery (fifth) and Blue Jack (7th) at Haydock last month. Markab, who seems to be getting better with age, began the season with an emphatic Group 3 success in Ireland and has gone well here in the past. Top Tip: NICCONI Watch out for: KINGSGATE NATIVE

One of Britain's best known media commentators Simon Holt is tipping the two Aussie raiders will be beaten in the King's Stand Stakes. He's tipping the local hope Kingsgate Native. In his Sporting Life website column, Holt says: 'The Australians have developed a wonderful record at Royal Ascot and they won the King's Stand Stakes last year with Scenic Blast. ..There hasn't been the same positive vibes, I don't think, about Nicconi, winner of the Grp 1 Lightning Stakes at Flemington in January.'
