A coup for TVN, a blow for Sky? We'll know soon enough. A coup for TVN, a blow for Sky? We'll know soon enough. The news is that the country and provincial sectors of the NSW racing industry have joined the Australian Turf Club in signing their media rights over to TVN, whose boss Harold Mitchell says that it's a "landmark agreement...the culmination of more than seven years of work by the TVN board and management, in conjunction with its shareholder clubs in NSW and Victoria...More recently, the involvement and support of the governing bodies Racing Victoria and Racing NSW, has been vital to achieving this outcome." The new deal means TVN will own the rights to the entire NSW and Victorian racing content until 2028.

Most punters are totally confused by what's happening in this latest TV business. The impression is given that TVN will show all the Vic and NSW racing and Sky will be left in the cold. That apparently is not the case. Sky will 'buy' the rights from the TVN aggregation, so things will probably just choof along as they do at the molment. Frankly, I can't see what improvements will be made. The deal is OK for NSW and Vic racing because they own the rights to their racing - but, OK, so what? How does that help punters?

Blow for Nash...Tommy Berry has been booked for Stayers Cup fav Reuben Percival, replacing an ill Nash Rawiller, at Rosehill on Saturday. Nash didn't ride at Canterbury on Wednesday and deputy chief stipe Greg Rudolph says: 'He's not taking rides on Saturday to fully recover.' The popular jockey had four early mounts on Saturday's 9-race card, which is headlined by the $100,000 Stayers Cup (3200m).
