RACING NSW has ordered country and provincial racing associations to unify the NSW broadcasting rights. The state's regulator has not denied this is the case, reports Craig Young in the Sydney Morning Herald.

His report states: At present, the out-of-town racing circuits are hooked into Tabcorp's Sky Racing channel but, if the mail is correct, the two sectors will break ranks. The Herald understands the country and provincial sector will join TVN, which is half-owned by Sydney's Australian Turf Club and the Victorian racing industry.

While the rugby league community discusses billion-dollar broadcasting rights deals, the racing industry remains divided when it comes to TVN and Sky Racing. It would appear the Black Caviar crew have knocked back a Sky Racing offer in preference for TVN, whose camera crews are set to follow the wonder horse around Europe. The world's best sprinter is tipped to perform at the Royal Ascot meeting next month with TVN cameras in tow.

Racing NSW heavies and their counterparts at Sky, which is about to go 3D, and TVN have been negotiating a new rights deal for some time. The existing deal between Sky, the NSW provincial and county racing associations is due to expire in December.

''The new deal will be good for the industry, and won't be harmful for anyone,'' Racing NSW chairman John Messara told the Herald.
