Take your hat off to this one...Multiple Grp I winning colt Helmet turned in a sparkling effort to win the first barrier trial to be held under lights at Cranbourne on Tuesday. Peter Snowden's highly-regarded 3YO was galloping in public for the first time since he wound up a beaten fav in the Cox Plate last year. With regular jockey Kerrin McEvoy aboard, Helmet settled behind the lead before easily going to the front for a 1.25 lens victory over the 1000m. Helmet clocked 59.45s, the fastest of the eight trials run over the distance.

Helmet is expected to return to racing in the Grp 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Feb 18 before taking on his #1 target, the Grp 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) a fortnight later. Helmet will then join superstar stablemate Sepoy on a trip to Dubai for World Cup night at Meydan on March 31. Helmet's target is the United Arab Emirates Derby (1900m) while Sepoy will run in the Grp 1 Golden Shaheen (1200m).
