Stradbroke talk is hotting up and there seems no doubt that Peter Snowden's 3YO Mental has underlined his credentials as the current fav with that impressive win in the Fred Best Classic (1,350m) at Doomben. He was tardy at the start, settled midfield and then sprinted brilliantly to draw clear. Good stuff. Snowden has the Straddie firmly in mind although Mental is well down the order of entry at the moment.

The Poms are getting delirious again over Frankel - and not without good reason. The world's top miler confirmed himself an all-time great in front of a packed and appreciative crowd at Newbury in the UK overnight, easily winning the Lockinge Stakes. There was immediate talk of a Frankel v Black Caviar matchup but most seem to agree it'll never happen. Frankel will now be moving to longer trips and it's difficult to see him being pulled back to, say, 1400m to face Black Caviar. The only real option seems to be a 1600m clash.

What's next for Frankel? Trainer Sir Henry Cecil says the Grp 1 Queen Anne Stakes over a mile and the Grp 1 Prince Of Wales Stakes over 10 furlongs (2000m) at Royal Ascot are the races under consideration. No doubt each will have 5 or 6 runners...

News from the USA...Just as he did in the Kentucky Derby, I'll Have Another ran down Bodemeister in the late stages of Saturday's $1 million Preakness Stakes at Pimlico and is now poised to become the first horse since Affirmed to sweep the Triple Crown should he win the Belmont Stakes on June 9.
