Racing Victoria stewards have brought two serious charges against Danny Nikolic following an investigation into alleged threats made to chief steward Terry Bailey at a meeting at Seymour last Tuesday. Bailey stood Nikolic down from riding after alleging the jockey threatened his family prior to the running of the sixth event at the meeting. Stewards have charged Nikolic with engaging in a "dishonest, corrupt, fraudulent, improper or dishonourable action or practice in connection with racing" as well as "conduct prejudicial to the image, interests or welfare of racing". Victoria's Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board will hear the charges on Wednesday morning after it has heard Nikolic's appeal against the stewards' order to stand him down at Seymour. Nikolic's father and manager, John Nikolic, says his son was having discussions with lawyers about defending the charges. He says: 'Nothing will be solved out of all this. They are determined to get rid of him.'
The uproar over the banning of injured Kate Mallyon from the female jockeys room at Bendigo has been resolved...with an apology from chief steward Terry Bailey. The Herald Sun reports: '...Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey apologised to the apprentice for the incident. Bailey rang Mallyon and her father Brett..Mallyon said yesterday she was pleased to have received the call from Bailey on Sunday night. "I'm glad it's all sorted. I didn't want to make a huge thing of it," she said. "The only reason I went to the races was because Michelle (Payne) asked me to keep her company for the day and I thought that would be a good idea." Bailey claims the incident was a result of a communications breakdown.' Uhhm...Seems there is a lot of miscommunication lately in Victorian racing!
