Did the stewards make a cock-up in scratching Classic Elle on 'suspicion' at Moonee Valley last Friday? Well, the mare's connections are fuming, TVN reports: 'Carol Watson, managing owner of Classic Elle...has slammed the scratching of the mare....Watson said it denied the owners the chance of contesting an $80,000 race despite the repeated assurances from trainer Tony Vasil the mare had not been treated illegally. Tthe owners still had to pay float and attendant costs...Stewards, acting on a report from the Compliance Assurance Team, ordered the scratching of Classic Elle from the Aquanas Foods Premium Handicap. The CAT officials made a random visit to Vasil's stable about 3.30pm last Friday where they inspected Classic Elle. Ms Watson said stewards were concerned by a mark on the neck of Classic Elle but Vasil told stewards he had not unlawfully treated her, had no knowledge of how the mark appeared, but provided a photo of the mare's box, which showed an object that the mare may have struck herself on.'

Something to look forward to...Amazingly it is nearly a year since Black Caviar's last race in Melbourne, when she won the Lightning Stakes at Flemington on February 10 last year, but the long wait is over. On Saturday at Caulfield, the undefeated mare will have, as trainer Peter Moody puts it, 'a spin' between races and the gallop will attract huge attention from both the public and media...''There is a real buzz about the day already and we are really looking forward to welcoming back Black Caviar,'' said Melbourne Racing Club Media Manager Jake Norton.
