Not past his use-by date...Victoria's new racing minister Denis Napthine hardly endorsed yesterday's re-appointment of Michael Duffy to a second three-year term as the state's biggest racing powerbroker, says the Age. It adds: ' But he said he hoped to have a positive working relationship with him...After yesterday's annual general meeting of Racing Victoria, Duffy was unanimously re-elected as RVL chairman by the 10-person board, despite being branded as being past his use-by date by Napthine in the run-up to last month's state election.'
Has Racing Victoria thrown down the gauntlet to new Racing Minister Denis Napthine by appointing Michael Duffy for another 3-year term. In the run-up to the State election, Napthine was highly critical of Duffy, saying he was past his use-by date. Now, the Board has said, well, you can have him for another three years! Napthine is promising to work with the chairman for the good of Victorian racing. He says he hopes it will be a positive relationship.
Where does all this leave Napthine's plans to revitalise and internationalise jumps racing, given that Michael Duffy has headed the board which has crippled the jumps game in the last 12 to 18 months and placed a guillotine over its future?
