The Caspar Fownes-trained Mighty K gets the right draw in the right tempo to bounce back among the winners in tonight's Police Cup (1,650m) at Happy Valley.

A good draw is usually a positive around the quirky city course, but with the strength of the tempo open to question, having gate one will give jockey Zac Purton all the options on Mighty K.

The gelding has led at times and would have that open to him if there are no rivals wanting to take the front-runner's role. Perhaps that won't be plan A - with blinkers going on Mighty K for the first time, he may prefer cover - but it is in the range of choices available.

Perhaps lightweight Real Dragon (Derek Leung Ka-chun) will return to his old ways and press forward from his wider draw, or perhaps Fortune Winner will look to take up the running as he has in the past. The lead doesn't necessarily have a name on it so having options is vital.

The last time Mighty K won, he did some work from the outside gate over this course to sit outside the leader and then scraped home in an effort that was better than the margin. He has had excuses since, the latest returning from an 11-week break at Sha Tin on February 24. A shuffle-up early saw Mighty K posted wide and he probably didn't need that after the time off.
