Are we kidding ourselves that the rain and the weight make a difference when the weights are so compressed these days? Well, I've listed here the number of limit-weight runners in each Eagle Farm race this Saturday, so let's see what happens.
Race 1 has set weights.
Race 2 has 8 above the limit and 16 (including the emergencies) on the limit.
Race 3 has set weights for the boys and the girls.
Race 4 is weight for age.
Races 5 and 6 have set weights.
Race 7 has 7 above the limit and the other 13 (two emergencies) carry the limit of 52.
Race 8 is set weights with penalties.
So we really are interested in Races 2 and 7. In this pair, 15 runners are weighted above the minumum and 29 are on it. My early newspaper and bookmakers' markets have limit weight horses on top in each of these races.
The listed McKell Cup has 7 of the 12 runners on the limit. We'll keep an eye on that too. Maybe there'll prove to be something to look closer at!
