Unbeaten West Australian sprinter Barakey flew into Melbourne last night ahead of his quest to make it twelve straight wins in Saturday's $400,000 Group 1 Sportingbet Oakleigh Plate (1100m).

Based at Aquanita Racing's Caulfield stables, trainer Jim Taylor said the five-year-old handled the trip like a seasoned traveller.

"I flew over on the plane last night with him and Luckygray. He handled everything good as gold, it was like he'd done it before," Taylor said.

"I'll do some light work with him tomorrow at Caulfield and then do a little bit more on Thursday. I just took him for a walk this morning because he travelled last night he didn't need too much work."

Though known for his ability to race in or near the lead in his races, Taylor said if Barakey could draw an inside barrier then he wouldn't be surprised if jockey Jason Brown elected to settle in behind the speed.

"I'd much prefer to draw an inside barrier tomorrow with him. From an inside draw he'd probably take a sit because there are some pretty fast horses in the race," he said.

"He certainly doesn't have to lead."

The last start Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) winner was allocated 57kg for Saturday's Oakleigh Plate, 1kg less than joint top weights Ortensia and Woorim. (www.racingvictoria.net.au)
